So I'm psyched... I get to see Pantera, Slayer, Morbid Angel on the same tour. Toss in Static-X and Skrape (the first of which I have found myself becoming more and more impressed with for some reason) and we have one kick ass show... or so I thought.First of all 6PM!?!?! What the hell is that... so we get out of work... drive the hour up to Hamilton, pull up at 6... OK, if we hurry we can catch Skrape and then see Static-X and catch MA and the rest... but little did we know that MA played all of 20-30 minutes and started before 6... and were fucking gone by the time we got in there.
I was looking forward to them the most and I missed them..... Bastards.
OK, so the rest play. Skrape was very similar to the rest of its ilk. Downtuned guitars, rap-like lyrics with a few decent beats. Not great but tolerable.
Static-X was just damn good. They had a lot of energy, got the crowd rolling and played strong (one of the reasons I am liking them more). Personally I feel they were second to only Pantera that night.
Slayer comes up... and let me tell you I have been able to see Slayer twice now, once on this tour and in '91 at the Clash of the Titans concert. The first time I saw them I was blown away. This time, they disappointed me majorly. They had a very short set, didnt have the energy that I had hoped for and it seemed that they just didn't wanna be there. Although thier new tracks sounded a hell of a lot better than Diabolus in Musica ilk.
Pantera, well, was Pantera... The pit was insane, the energy was insane, the people were insane. They played a great set. Their stage design was top notch. They even got Kerry King out a few times to play.
Overall this was a fun concert, but I have seen better.

I went to the "Extreme Steel Tour" at the Centrum in Worcester, Mass. last night, and thought you guys might like a review. I made a decision to skip Morbid Angel, so that I didn't have to stand through Skrape and Static X's sets. I saw Morbid Angel on the spring tour though and they were awesome. I hope Steve Tucker's absence is only temporary, as he was quite a charismatic front man. On to the current show. I arrived about the time Static X went on, after the requisite pit stop, I watched some of their set from the seats. To their credit, they were tight, and eminently moshable, but all their songs sound pretty much the same. After Static X, I headed to the floor, so I could get a good spot for the mighty Slayer. I've been a fan, a long time, but this is only my second time seeing Slayer, and my first time seeing them indoors. Suffice it to say I was fired up. The lights dimmed and out came Slayer. They did the guitar feedback/noise intro and ripped into "Raining Blood" The place went nuts of course. Next they played "Chemical Warfare" which was great, but seemed unfamiliar to some of the crowd. I'm a bit unsure of the order of the rest of the show, but I think they played "God Hates Us All" off the new record next. It was okay, but sounded more like something off of "Diabolous in Musica" than "Reign in blood." They also played "Blood Line" and Stain of Mind" and that was about it for the new school slayer stuff. They played "War Ensemble", which was awesome, and also "Dead Skin Mask" into "Seasons in the Abyss" (no seasons intro, unfortunately) I should mention that the sound was a little muddy, because I didn't recognize "Seasons" at first without the intro, and I've listened to it, and played it myself about a thousand times. Jeff disappeared for awhile during the Seasons solos, so perhaps they were having technical difficulties. They finished with "South of Heaven" and everybody's favorite "Angel of Deeeeaaath!", both of which were magnificently brutal. A longer set with some more fast songs would have been better, but it was still great.
This was my eighth time seeing Pantera, so I was as excited to see them as I was to see Slayer, but they came out and kicked ass like always, and I was not disappointed. They came out to some background music that I didn't know, with some fake smoke and flashing lights. Phil proclaimed them the kings of metal, and they launched into "Hell Bound." The first surprise of the night was "Fire! Fire!"(a cheap gimmick I suppose, but I enjoyed it anyway) Big columns of flame shot out of the logo they had in the background when Phil screamed "Heeellll booouuund!" They used it again during "War Nerve." They also threw in a couple songs that I haven't heard them play since the first time I saw them in '94: "Mouth for War," and one of my favorites, "Strength Beyond Strength." Kerry King was supposed to do his solo on "God Damn Electric" but they must have had technical difficulties again, because he didn't come out. Dime, did a good job on it though. The show moved pretty fast even though Phil did his usual ranting. He seemed to be in a good mood and really gave it up for the crowd (He did this funny intro before he shot the crowd for the home video. You'll have to get the video to hear it.) The only slower song they did was "This Love," towards the end of the show. They wrapped with "Primal Concrete Sledge" and then Played Cowboys from Hell" as I was walking out (call me a pussy if you want, but I've seen them eight times, and I had to piss.) Surprisingly, They didn't play "Walk," unless they played it after "CFH." It was a good set, Pantera never disappoints.
