"Victories do not simply happen. Blood must be shed, a lot of blood, to achieve them and to lay them down at the feet of the conquerors. Without the corpses and the scattered limbs you see on the plain where carnage is wisely practiced, there would be no war and, without war, there would be no victory, so legions of the night, nightbreed, rise thy weapons in warfare, for we are the apocalypse!" - Liner notes to Blood Must Be Shed"War is good, AIDS is good, Mass Murder is good, Gang Violence is good, crack cocaine is good, anything that contributes to depopulating the earth is good." What great words of wisdom, for such a foul planet filled with sheep. Zyklon B play what I will call Total Cleansing Black Metal, a form of Black Metal that is too violent to be handled by most Cradle of Dick fans. Starting as an idea in Emperor guitarist Samoth's head, to create the best 11 minutes of Black Metal Planet Turd would ever hear. Asking fellow Emperor band mate Ihsahn to help with the Keyboards, Aldrahn of Dodheimsgard fame to perform vocals, and Frost the human drum machine of Satyricon where they embarked on a journey to keep that raw Black Metal sound that all four of them were very aware of (due to the aforementioned projects) but remain original and not end up like another Darkthrone or Bathory. Now this band is not to be confused with that filthy Morbid Angel on Cocaine/Speed rip off that appeared 6 years later and shared the same name but without the B.
The opening track "Mental Orgasm", is 2:54 long, does not slow down once and to add spice, a sample that says; "I stabbed him again and again." It will prepare you for a journey to the side of right-wing behavior, and urinating on those who oppose you. Track 2, "Bloodsoil", was written by Bard Eithun, (Faust of Emperor, for the uneducated). Track 3, "Warfare", is the track that causes the Auschwitz bulldozer to plow your brain out of your head. "Warfare" begins with the trademark blistering fast drums and Aldrahn's unique vocal take on Black Metal. "I hate everybody, I can't grasp the world, I hate everything." To end Blood Must Be Shed is the sample that I recited at the beginning of paragraph two, above.
This album is only for the true, and underground because the label that had put out Blood Must Be Shed is now defunct along with many other Black Metal records labels. Collectors' item, if you can get your hands on a copy. I do own a copy just because I'm True and Rockit Records (R.I.P.) carried it. To end this review, I must type the disclaimer: Zyklon-B is not linked to any kind of political or racial preferance!
