  • Hel's Review:
It was only a matter of time before this album made its way into this section. City, for many people, was an instant classic, and deservedly so. This is arguably the early pinnacle of Hevy Devy’s brilliant madness and was, in my opinion, an album far ahead of its time. This album has been discussed frequently over the years, and it seems to me, from those conversations at least, that it went over many people’s heads when they first heard it.

City is exactly the kind of album that needs to be absorbed into your blood stream before you can fully understand how truly addictive it is. Here is an album that returns to my player time and again, yet it still never gets old. The maniacal delivery, the frenetic speed, the sheer destructive power of the riffs – it all just gets me right there. This is intensely visceral music intended to evoke an intensely visceral response, which it does - in spades.

If you were like me, you welcomed the news that Strapping Young Lad was returning from the dead with profound relief. This album bears the burden of being heavily responsible for my desire to see this fantastic band continue its grand tradition of ripping your head off and hurling it, dripping and bleeding, right back into your chest. Hail, Strapping Young Lad! Long live the Kings!
