  • Death's Review:
The greatest thrash record ever made. The ultimate speed metal masterpiece. The godfather of death metal. However you view Reign In Blood, to speak of this record is surely to contemplate one of metal's all-time-greats. From the opening notes of "Angel of Death," Dave Lombardo puts on a veritable drum clinic full of aggressive double-bass drum insanity. And staying with the opener, the middle "A.O.D." riff still stands as the archetypal Hanneman/King riff.

Mr. Araya spits vocal blasphemy with stunning clarity and velocity on songs like "Jesus Saves." Try singing along with the lyric sheet and the record. "Altar of Sacrifice" has some of the sickest riffs ever recorded, while "Criminally Insane" does for the rock ride cymbal what Eddie Van Halen did for the hammer-on / pull-off guitar technique. The howlingly brutal, headbanging fury of "Postmortem" into "Reign In Blood" ends the chaos with metallic perfection.

Short but sweet, to this day Reign In Blood rises high above all. The truest of metal masterpieces.
