This is the album that started it all. Once this album came out, everyone started ripping off their sound. I'm not a big fan of it, but it was quite original at the time. Unlike most of the first wave of death metal, Entombed wasn't just pounding it out as fast as u can like Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, etc. They had riffs that flowed from one to another and they were audible, not just a big wall of sound with everything muffling everything else. Even listening to it today, it's still head and shoulders above 90% of all death metal that's coming out now. The production work wasn't the best, but it did the job. The artwork was awesome, and is something that is missing in Entombed's releases today. There are no filler tracks, but standouts include "Left Hand Path," "Bitter Loss" and "Edible Autopsy." There is better death metal than this out there, but few bands had an impact on the scene like this album had.
