If someone was handing out Grammies for consistency, AC/DC should have received a lifetime achievement award by now. The band has pretty much made the same record for the last twenty-five years, using about four different guitar chords and upholding the sexual maturity of a 13-year-old boy. Back In Black is no exception. Chord bashing, hyperactive guitar solos, sexist lyrics, it's all in there. Even though the band is working with a limited set of musical tools, the songs on BIB are so damn catchy you don't care. Brian Johnson's listen-while-I-strangle-my-cat vocals fit perfectly with the band's music. You certainly can't accuse the band of taking themselves too seriously, and it's good to see a band with a sense of humor once in a while. "Hells Bells" is about as dark as they get, but that tune is rather upbeat when compared to the satanic onslaught that's come out of Norway recently. Most of the band's infatuation with sex is tongue-in-check, although "Let Me Put My Love Into You" is a little disturbing with its border line rape mentality. I've always considered AC/DC kind of "kitsch" as far as rock goes, but a little fun never hurt anybody.
