The fourth album with the "super-lineup," well Infinite was released in the new millenium (2000) and was voted as the best powermetal album in 2000 by several magazines. My own humble estimation of this album is rather simple: Infinite is a slab of great, superb, catchy, well played and, most important of all, good powermetal. Stratovarius stick to their guns and continue to unleash their blending of epic and symphonic powermetal. This time the band does try some new things, like adding a orchestra in some of their songs, and let me say that it works perfectly. The album starts with "Hunting High And Low," which is the perfect opener with its optimistic atmosphere that makes you want "live." "Infinite" is a bit more epic in the sound, probably because of the presence of the orchestra. Songs like "Mother Gaia" and "Infinite" really show how exciting the atmosphere can get by combining heavy guitars and an orchestra-- the result is marvelous. "A Million Light Years Away" is a very good tune with a cool keyboard pattern, and "Phoenix" has some very wicked keyboard arrangements. And the sound is crushing, just listen to the title track and you'll know what I mean by crushing. Basically this is a record you know you're going to like if you're familiar with the band's works. I hope these guys stay together as a team forever, because they work so well when producing an album. Great work guys. This is a great release from a band that's honest and doesn't follow trends like so many other powermetal bands in today's scene. Infinite gets a 10. Stratovarius just know how to play powermetal with feeling.

When I first listened to this album my only thought was: we`re in the presence of a masterpiece. Great cover artwork, unbelievably great songs, symphonic parts that blow away any chance of concurrence! My friends, this is pure metal heaven. I knew Stratovarius since their Episode album, but this is something else. All the musicians are simply great and Timo Kotipelto is one of the best singers in the whole world. The opener "Hunting High and Low" has all that an opener should have. A very catchy singalong chorus, great lyrics, excellent keyboard introduction and so on.

As to the rest of the album, well itīs just sickening how good these guys are... "Millenium," an ultra heavy piece of pure melodic metal. "Mother Gaia," you just got to listen to it live... it brought tears to my eyes. "Phoenix," "Glory of the world"

"A million light years away" and the incredible title track makes this album one of the best I've ever heard. Magic, monstruous, absolutely perfect. Buy it now!!

I'm a power/prog kind of guy, and I have been a Stratovarius fan for a long time. But this CD is pretty tiresome. The opening tracks "Hunting High and Low" and "Millennium" are the best songs on the album, and the one most reminiscent of the Episode/Visions era (their high point.) Overall, Infinite represents a further turn toward the glammy, which began with the previous release, Destiny. The environmentalist propaganda packaged in awkward, pseudo-orchestrated pansy-metal that is "Mother Gaia" is just sickening. The classic Strato elements that remain barely keep this one off my trade list. If you're a fan of Stratovarius' earlier work, buy this one, but don't expect too much.
