Steel Prophet play a classy, intelligent kind of power metal that one cannot help but respect. However, Messiah did disappoint me somewhat after the very strong Dark Hallucinations. Steel Prophet have opted for a less heavy and more direct sound on Messiah, sounding more like Iron Maiden and less like, say, Rage.

Although this will not be taking #1 honors for 2000 it's a very strong effort and well worth getting.

Steel Prophet are slowly climbing up the ranks of both the American and worldwide Power Metal Scene. Fueled by guitarist and songwriter Steve Kachinsky, Steel Prophet have shown the world that Power Metal is still strong in the American scene, and Steel Prophet is easily one of the best bands still playing it. On Messiah, Steve and crew tear through eleven blistering track including the phenomenal "Ides Of March" (Not the Iron Maiden Song) "Messiah," "Vengeance Attained (I could easily see Judas Priest covering this one due to the lyrical content) and the Power Metal ballad of the album, "Earth And Sky." This band has already amazed many Metal Magazine writers including Germany's Heavy Oder Was, they named Dark Hallucinations album of the month when they reviewed it, and later returned the favor when they heard the magic of Messiah. Compared to their previous album Dark Hallucinations, Messiah is much more melodic while maintaining enough power to keep the fans proud of their Metal Heroes. Many have already begun claiming it's their best yet. Messiah has also quickly become one of my favorite Power Metal releases, the lyrics actually serve a purpose while provoking intelligent thoughts, unlike other Power Metal songs which only hail Metal in general or the band moniker (Hammerfall.) I have no doubt that it will quickly become a Metal classic.
