I hadn't heard the first SG CD when I first heard ADSFTBD so was unprepared for the chaotic song structure and violent tempo changes. To be 100% honest I wasn't entirely sure I was gonna get through the whole CD, it appeared to be just too crazy and loose for my tastes. A couple of songs in and I realised that these guys were "definitely different" and after a couple more listens I started to pick out memorable riffs from the complex mix. Suffice to say, I am now a complete Green convert!

Once I started delving into the lyrical structure and crypto-poetic words I realised that this was definitely an all time classic. Ben is obviously an extremely talented wordsmith, and even then I bet it took him a long time to put these lyrics together.

I love twin guitars and dig solos, so it's a surprise that I don't miss the solos on this CD...it just isn't that kind of music. It's a credit to the guitarists' tightness and precision that you can virtually only hear the guitars separately on the dying moments of the last track, when one guitar switches off leaving the sustain of the other carrying on for a couple of extra seconds; I wonder if it was intentional, just in case you hadn't realised there was 2 guitars! Would be an easy mistake to make.

I rate this CD up with some of my all time favourites (Carcass' Heartwork, CC's The Bleeding, In Flames' Jester's Race, etc.) and I know it is a CD I will come back to time and time again. Dunno about anyone else but some of my fav. CDs I didn't think much of on the first listen, probably because they were in a direction I wasn't used to, or whatever; this is one of those.

I know it's a classic when I find myself "singing" the last verse to the last song: "Somewhere in these apologies the devil lurks." - MASSIVE!!!
    5 out of 5
