If one day death metal thought it would become an adult, this day has arrived. Here we can find everything that has glorificated the style in its, let's say, 20 years of existence. Quoted: Growling vocals, screaming loud-in-yer-face guitar riffs, lyrics that make any normal being run to the bathroom and start puking!!! (Kidding, only for the weak of stomach). Chri Barnes this time has atually overcame himself with a goddamned fucking cool album. SIng along...

Cadaver mutilator, cadaver butchery, smell decayed flesh, my work of art complete... (sorry no quotation marks, neither question marks). Followed along by other 3 insane of mind fellas they put everything down in way few before them could do. My hint: demand it, eat it, love it, scare your mom with it!!!!!!! Ha,HA,HA!!!!!!

I was a bit uncertain going into this album, but after listening to it several times, I am not disappointed in the slightest... It has all that a Six Feet Under fan would expect: driving riffs, slow grooves, and gory imagery, the latter being a big reason I like this band as much as I do, and all the reasons are top notch on this album. There are a few clunky spots (I don't care much for the opening vocals of "The Murderers"), but the good outweighs the bad by far. Nothing groundbreaking, but I don't think many people were looking for that here. What most fans would expect is a solid SFU album, and True Carnage delivers.

I must say I have to disagree with Abyss when he says that Six Feet Under fans would like this album and those who hate them will hate it. Those who hate SFU WILL hate this album, but quite a few people who were loyal fans in the past might as well. Personally, I didn't HATE the album, but it is far from SFU's best material.

My expectations were high going into this album-- Maximum Violence was, in my opinion, one of the best death metal records of '99. The razor-edge production, shifting tempos, old-school vocals, and overall brutality of that record really showed what SFU was capable of. Sadly, they seem to have gotten lazy with True Carnage. Opener "Impulse to Disembowl" is pretty cool-- it slithers along, showcasing Barnes's best gurgly vocals and guitarist Steve Swanson's affinity for screaming harmonics. "The Day the Dead Walked" is also very good-- a short, fast, 2001 run of pure death metal with lyrics obviously inspired by George Romero flicks and the Return of the Living Dead series. I thoroughly enjoyed both "One Bullet Left" with Ice-T (if you must combine rap with metal, this is the way it SHOULD sound) and "Sick and Twisted" with Karyn Crisis, as well as the closing track, "Necrosociety." But other than these five songs, this album is just one long mid-tempo plod with lame lyrics ("Snakes," "Knife Gun Axe," "The Murderers"). They should not have used Dave Schiffman for the mix-- he seems to have taken away a lot of clarity, and I don't think that just because he's worked with Rage Against the Machine that SFU will become a platinum act. To tell the truth, I think I'd rather listen to Warpath than this, and True Carnage only holds a very dim candle to Maximum Violence. To all SFU fans: make sure you hear this one before you buy it.

I would like to rename this CD: True Crappage. After reading Death's, Hel's & Abyss's review of this CD and an interview with Chris Barnes at www.metalupdate.com, I went and bought the CD. Being a long-time Six Feet Under fan I was sadly disappointed in the reviews and the CD. There are a few songs that happen to be good and Six Feet Under quality. "The Day the Dead Walked" would have to be the strongest track on this CD. "True Carnage" is also good. However, "One Bullet Left" is horrible. Ice-T comes off more than silly, sounds pretty stupid throughout the whole song. If Ice-t weren't in "One Bullet Left" it would be one of three 'good' songs. I think Barnes has writer's block after reading the lyrics of the CD. "The Murderers" is dreadfully written, as are most of the songs. I know death metal isn't renowned for its thought-provoking lyrics, but what I read was pretty much uninspired crap. What happened to the Chris Barnes of Cannibal Corpse and their CD Haunted?

"Definitely worth your time unless you've already decided that you hate this band." I love this band, but this CD isn't worth anyone's time. I'd rather listen to any other SFU CD than this one. If you haven't wasted your money on this CD yet, go buy Bloodthirst by Cannibal Corpse instead, you'll thank me. How could you guys give Bloodthirst 3 skulls and this CD 4 skulls?

I just listened to True Carnage for the second time and I can't stand it. I like the other SFU albums but this one sucks by far. I wouldn't even buy this album if I heard it before I bought it. I was just a SFU fan thinking it was gonna kick ass. Instead it sux ass. There are like 1-2 songs that are bearable. To top it off every song is like 2 minutes long. Other albums they least topped the three minutes point. If you're an SFU fan, in my opinion, stay far away from this shit. If you're willing to buy a 15 dollar coaster go ahead.

To hell with the so-called "new era/generation" of metal (i.e. Limp Pisskit, Korn, Happy Against The Machine, Staind, Tool, Marilyn "I Love My New Sex Change!" Manson, Powerman 5000, Slipjoke, and Kid's Dept. (aka Kid Rock)) among other hosts of family hour entertainment, Six Feet Under's latest lethal effort True Carnage is metal personified-- and controversial, fortunately! You want something to wake you at the crack of dawn "to get you going" or something to listen to while you work? Look no further! Unlike other metal bands who "change with the times," only to end up "selling out," thus receiving a day's worth of tongue-lashings, Six Feet Under stay true to form! Every song is heavy and sadistic (I don't know how much more I need to emphasize that)! Even though I have a "very low opinion" of rap/hip hop, I want to "tip my hat" to Ice-T for "contributing his inner hostility" on "One Bullet Left." If you're fed up with the new bands that Hit Parader and/or Metal Edge is or are promoting (like I am!), then get yourself a copy of S.F.U.'s True Carnage!

I must admit, at first listen I wasn't all that impressed with this album. I thought Maximum Violence was SFU's best album, and I still do. However, I am a diehard fan of everything that Barnes has done. Lyrically, TC is a return to the heyday of the underground, comparable to Cannibal's Tomb of The Mutilated. Chris's vocals are low and vicious on this one, and while the music is simplistic and straightforward, this album grows on you. After repeated listens, I find it to be catchy and probably their second best album, music and production-wise. Vocal contributions by Ice-T and Karyn Crisis only add to the darkness and violence on this disc. So if you're a fan, it's a must have, but even if you are not, it's worth purchasing for it's aggressiveness and groove. Get out the bone saw, cuz SFU is back to murder the mainstream!!!!
