This album is a great Satyricon release. I was very suprised with this one. I thought they had sold out once I saw their cover artwork and their stupid title... Rebel Extravaganza.

I bought this album because I'm a big fan of Satyricon. Thinking it would suck big time, I popped the CD in and was very impressed with what I heard. This is a very original and extreme black metal album. Although it is not their best album, it definately proves that Satyricon has not lost their touch.

Before even thinking of buying this record you have to get Nemesis Divina if you don't have it yet. That album is one of the finest moments of the whole black metal movement. It mixes speed and brutality perfectly with Norwegian folk. The production was vast and expansive leaving room to breath. Unlike over produced black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir. I was hoping Rebel Extravaganza was going to be a further progression of what Nemesis Divina was, but no. I should have expected a band as creative as Satyricon to suprise me, and they have. This is a very brutal album. Fast black metal parts, slow doomy riffs, noise, and electronic elements all blend well. Sadly the woodsy sound is gone and is replaced with a kind of modern techinal brutality. While a very good and dark album, I don't think they will ever top the last album.

The most brutal yet technical album of the year as far as I've heard. Blowing Panzer Division Marduk out of the water in the best "true black" metal album of the year department, this album stays strong in black metal tradition yet something about it is new and adventurous. What will first be noticed when this album is picked up is the brilliant lay out and design. Then one will notice the incredible make up job done on Satyr and Frost! It may sound stupid but you will notice it, trust me! Anyway, these points are trivial and what is important is the music, and quite frankly it's great. In a scene where brutal black metal bands are quickly growing stale, Satyricon has kept the spirit alive and will make you feel like you're just hearing black metal for the first time... again! This album has what any black metal album could ever need: brutal vocals, raging guitars, barely any synth and some of the fastest blast beats I've ever heard! Making up for what I feel have been some weak releases recently, Satyricon have produced a complete brutal masterpiece.
