Fucked up album. Nile is just a fad. Guitars sound whiny, vocals are sickening. If they just thickened their guitars and get one vocalist that shit will be much better. They get 2 skulls for track 10 - good intro and superb drumming.

Wow...This album smokes. I was wondering how this album would stand up to their previous Black Seeds of Vengeance and it does very well. The addition of Tony from Angel Corpse fame was very nice and noticeable immediately. I am still partial to anything that Morbid Angel puts out though because of the riffs and leads that Trey does. That is the one thing Nile doesn't completely do for me compared to the death Kings. I do love the album though and would recommend it to anyone who loves extreme music.............

Before I begin this review, let me make something clear... I completely fail to see the brilliance of this band.

That said, somehow, I have found myself spending hard earned, and not easily obtained cash on the last three releases by this group. I cannot part with them after numerous cd exchange trips to my local metalshops, yet I truly cannot say that I LOVE them. Nile is, to me, the deathmetal equivalent of Rush... the most individually talented band you will ever come across in this or any lifetime, that cannot put together a solid album of good SONGS. I'm sorry, but all the musical ability in the world does not a colossal album make, without good solid songrwriting. I cannot be accused of not having the cognizance to recognize the importance of this album, because I know it is a MAJOR release on the deathmetal and music scene as a whole, but, simply put, I do not see, nor hear, what the big fucking deal is.

I will admit, quite ferociously, that this is a phenominal band. The instrumentalist on this and every Nile release are nonparellel, without a doubt. Is it fast? Blisteringly so. Is it tight? Moreso than a virgin on Prom Night (if there is such a thing these days). Are these guys amazing? Absolutely and beyond a shadow of a doubt. I honestly cannot think of a more talented and technically astonishing band on the face of the planet right now, including Hate Eternal and Immortal. Yet Nile severely lacks what the aformentioned two bands decidedly have mastered, solid songwriting, and hook.

Personally, I enjoy challenging metal. The last Emperor and Mayhem records wore me out, tried my patience, and ultimately kicked my ass. It took me at LEAST 12 listens to each of their last albums to fully grasp what was going on. Once I did, I was exhausted and happy. While after 10 solid listens to In Their Darkened Shrines in its entirety, I have grasped what Nile has done here, but I certainly do not think it's the second (or third) wind of deathmetal as we know it. Nile seems cripplingly preoccupied with pulverizing their fans with unbelievable technicality, which ultimately, sacrifices solid songwriting. If they wrote an album with just SLIGHTLY more repitition, hook, and groove, this would have possibly been the most incredible piece of music ever crafted, PERIOD. Sadly, they did not. All the technial wizardry in the world cannot make a great album if not even ONE memorable riff remains, even after almost a dozen listens. All I'm left with is superlative drum bashing, apocalyptically savage vocals, and whiny riffs with no real repetitive force behind them, save the mindblowing first song (much like the equally frustrating previous release, Black Seeds Of Vengeance).

I consider myself a Nile fan, believe it or not, even if I don't 'get' them. To give this album anything less than 4 skulls is stupidity, and their superior musicianship MUST be recognized. But in the end, it is indeed flawed by their reckless abandon, overactive technicality, and lack of solid hook. I intend to thorougly blast this release well past the end of the year, and give major props to the individuals that make up this truly special band. But boys, take a lesson from Krisiun, sometimes LESS means MORE.

I'm thoroughly confused by the good reviews I have been reading of this album. Does anyone realize how ridiculously redundant and boring this album, as well as every other album by Nile is? They play the same, dull 4/4 riffs forever and they never groove. Even the solos suck. This band may be fast, but so what? Nile proved that they did all they could on Black Seeds... and that was all the creative juice they had, because there is nothing different about this album. In fact, one song, "Khefiu Asar Butchiu" (which was hailed by the Judgment Committee for some unknown reason) has almost the exact same 4/4 riff from Black Seeds... title track. And enough with the fucking Egyptian crap-- no one cares! You swear a bunch of drunk dudes bangin their heads to fast and redundant crap give a rats dick about ancient Egypt-- total gimmick that's just boring. There, I've said it aand I really don't care what all of you Nile fans think!!

Amazing... Outstanding... Incredible... oh yeah, Ithyphallic. Nile have surpassed all of their previous albums with their new brilliantly titled In Their Darkened Shrines...Every song is a new trip to the Eternal sands of Egypt. It takes you through ruins and catacombs, to the hall of Saurian, to countless inspiring moments while listening to it...This is the top album on my list right now and that probably won't change for a long time...One of the main things that is hardly believable about this record is the current line-up changes they have had...I mean a brand new drummer that can keep up and add a whole new technicality to the music...Amazing, fucking amazing...Buy this fucking cd now!...lUNAS HAS RISEN!

WOW!!! That's the word that comes up in my mind when I hear this album, incredible brutality, musicianship, songwriting, the songs are all amazing and very brutal and heavy and it never gets boring like the thousand other death metal bands, with this album imo they have become the kings of death metal (actually they were that after Black Seeds too) and no band can compete with their talent and songwriting besides maybe morbid angel but they are gonna have to write something really good to overdo this album, the talent in this band is amazing.

Though it has been some lineup changes they still haven't lost anything, the new singer/bass player jon vesano is pretty similiar to chief and he does a great job and the new drummer tony laureano is simply awesome. There is so much to say about this album but my advice is that you MUST buy this if you are a death metal fan or metal fan in general. Album of the year in my opinion.

Hail to NILE the gods of deathmetal!
