  • Scott Rodriguez's Review:
Rarely do I strike a grin on my face from the first 10 seconds of a CD... but I do with Nightwish. This metal has its own sound, and should be a must have for every metal head. This band has got to be the best unknown metal band out there... probably because they're from Europe. If I had to describe this for someone who has never heard them, I'd say, "Think progressive Children of Bodom music, meets Carmina Burana's female operatic vocals. And even that doesn't do it justice" The vocals on this are unparalelled. The singer has trained in opera, and it shows. This isn't Karen Crisis screeching, then singing clean for a few verses... it's all clean and heavenly that blends exactly with the music. The music is progressive, and the songs are longer than most metal bands, but they go by quick. The metal is soft and heavy at the same time. Not trash, but not light Crimson Glory shit either. Asides from the metal guitars, they make excellent use of pianos and synthesizers that don't get overplayed. This is an excellent followup to Oceanborn.
