About two years ago a friend of mine turned me on to Krisiun after he saw them perform at Milwaukee Metalfest (this must have been 1999) and said they killed. I'm not one to believe hype, but I checked them out anyway by buying an import copy of Apocalyptic Revelation. I was pretty floored, especially by the unreal drum speed and total Slayer influence. It sounded primal, savage, raw as hell, and totally brilliant. I bought the import of Black Force Domain soon after and wasn't as impressed, I probably should have bought them in the order they came out, but was pretty stoked over it as well. It was like nothing I'd been listening to at that point, and I was all happy about the Conquerors Of Armageddon album, especially with Eric Rutan producing it. However...

It was a fairly unremarkable album, and in my opinion it hurt their chances of taking the next step up in the scene the way their first two albums had promised. It was actually dificult to listen to due to the blandness of the riffs, and the plainness of the vocal structures. It was a good album, but it wasn't great. The production was just flat as well.

Not expecting much improvement, I faithfully bought Ageless Venomous, and despite an unusual title, this TOTALLY delivers. Don't expect anything groundbreaking on this, but Krisiun take a huge step in the right direction with Ageless, and burn the shit out of their last album. This is an energized, inspired Krisiun that makes me wonder how they're going to top this in the future. Coming up with a pretty hefty amount of fresh and violent riffs on this CD, they don't slow down at all compared to previous releases, but also haven't gone stale with the nearly constant blasting. "Saviour's Blood," "Eyes Of Eternal Scourge" and the downright nasty closer "Sepulchral Feast" show Krisiun at their blinding best with these awesome tunes.

Even if you don't like Krisiun, there are some undeniably wicked moments on this album, and the drums aren't TOO high in the mix, you just need to adjust your equalizer a bit. Would you rather have the drums inaudible? You might need to listen for the riffs a little bit more (not nearly as bad as, say, Immortal's Battles In The North) but the listening will be worth it. They still have more to give, though, so let's hope they don't burn out.
    5 out of 5
