It's fresh, it's kind of new and it's inspired. This is one of the best albums I heard in a while. I listen to it on a regular basis (read "almost" every day) something that I can't say for every metal band CD's I own.

The mixture of electronic, female voices and very present guitars make this one stand out. The previous album was a master piece too but more in the black metal mood. Now, the influence comes from different sources (futurist sound mixed with traditional metal, opera and techno) and that's what makes it fresh and genuine.

As a big fan of Nexus Polaris, I was sorely disappointed in Animatronic. Unless you actually like the bastardization of metal being undertaken by the likes of Tiamat, Moonspell, and Samael in their latest album (Passage was cool, but Eternal is just too much), you'll dislike this album. I actually like gothic, castleblack metal, but I don't see what techno has to do with true gothic music, frankly: it just sounds mechanical and synthetic. Animatronic, while having its moments, is ultimately a Eurotrash sellout.

As soon as I saw their Mariyln Manson like looks I became skeptical, but I liked Nexus Polaris, so I gave it a try. Too techno-metal for me, not as good as NP but still a decent release. Next to Dimmu's SBD, Nagash is insane for leaving Dimmu Borgir for this.

One of the more innovative albums and, in my opinion, one of the best albums of the year. The Kovenant have released two releases prior to Animatronic under the name of Covenant. Consequently, this name had to be changed because of a well known industrial band by the same name. I have not heard the first Covenant release (In Times Before the Light) but I do own their second release (Nexus Polaris), an album which, I thought, could have been a lot better. Well, The Kovenant more than make up for it with Animatronic. This album combines metal (I'm refraining from saying black metal, because I feel they have forgotten their black metal roots) and dance/techno beats. Despite some weaker points, this album is powerful and enjoyable all the way through. I hear a lot of different influences in this album. Everything from (as I said before) dance, to Arcturus, to most noticeably Marilyn Manson. Now, though I say this, I do not feel this should steer people away from the music. The influence of Marilyn Manson will be most noticedin the band's new image and also the track "Mannequin." This does not detract from the album though. With the album's fresh mixture of metal riffs and brief portions of dance break beats, this album proves refreshing and innovative. If you're willing to open your mind to this album, just like you did the first time you heard Arcturus' La Masquerade Infernale, you will come to realize the genius in the recording.
