I really don't like how people prejudged these ladies. I mean, sure, they are young and are gonna be easily influenced, but it's a good thing. At least the influence turns away from the mainstream. Seems most of the songs on the album are all about personal matters, a trait which seems to be on all metal albums these days. If you listen to this album and see Kittie live, you can see how well these girls are improving. However, vocalist Mercedes has acquired a death metal growl, which doesn't sound bad at all, just doesn't sound as angry as before. But anyway, this band, I believe, definitely has potential to be a powerful band. As long as their next album isn't MTV inspired.

I'll admit I'm a bit of a sexist when it comes to metal. When I see a band composed entirely of the opposite gender, I start wondering how much their music is going to suck. Kittie doesn't exactly blow me off the map, but their debut record doesn't disappoint me as much as my bias would like. Cool riffs abound, particularly in "Charlotte," "Suck," and "Choke." Vocally, the babydoll verse sections of "Charlotte" represent the best performance on the album. Too bad they couldn't have done more of that and avoided the bulk of the death grunting. Not a horrible release, but this is nothing to get too excited over.
