I didn't like Gamma Ray AT ALL before this release. I love this CD. Heavy production, great vocals, and catchy songs. I went back and listened to the older stuff again and still don't care for it, but this CD is great.

Alright. Finally Kai and Co. have put back the bang into their band. This is Gamma Ray's best piece of work since Rebellion... and it has even delved back into the power of Sigh No More. See, I for one (along with my small circle of metalheads) always enjoyed Gamma's/Helloween's stright-forward metal songs (the Priest/Maiden influenced ones) more so than there "happy" songs. Songs like "Changes," "Rich and Famous," "Dream Healer," "Rebellion in Dreamland" and "Short as Hell," all the way back to "Future World" and "I Want Out." You held your fist in the air and banged your head to these tunes; that's what good metal is supposed to make you do/feel. A couple happy tunes per disc is fine (and appreciated) but Kai was letting them become the norm.NO WORLD ORDER opens with a typical happy intro into "Dethrone Tyranny," a good yet "happy" Helloweenie type song that will please those fans. Then the disc rips open with "The Heart of the Unicorn," a powerful Priest-like thrasher (Painkiller era). "Heaven or Hell" is a rocker out of the "I Want Out" mould-- another good song. The disc just continues to get better. "New World Order" has a Stained Class era feel that breaks into a Maiden swagger, then into classic Gamma Ray. "Damn the Machine" is a mid-tempo cruncher that causes me to disobey the speed limit; it has even those German drinking chants pioneered by Accept!!! "Solid" is a faster song for the happy metal campers (and I don't mean that derogatorily); then Kai gets back to headbanging heaven with "Fire Below," my favorite song on the disc. Great crunchy riff; a head bobber for sure. I can't forget "Eagle" (Kai loves his eagles) a musical nod again to Priest (double bass-Painkiller) and Maiden (mid-song) with also classic Gamma/Helloween moments. Another great song. The disc ends with one of Kai's best power ballads, "Lake of Tears."
Also let me comment on two other important items: Kai's voice sounds great; and this is the best production on a Gamma Ray disc since Sigh No More. This disc is a must have for fans of metallic Gamma Ray/Priest/Maiden/Helloween. Finally-- a "Power Metal" disc from a "Power Metal " band...........with POWER!!!
Note: I would give this disc 5 skulls, however, I believe that the coveted 5th skull should only be added in the context of time (a year or two down the road-- after it has firmly become part of your psyche-- like years of welding The Number of the Beast to my cranium!). TD
