The Forsaken really had it together on this one.

Man, this has to be one of the best debuts I've laid my ears on, seriously. Out of the blue comes another Swedish death metal band under the name Forsaken and what they've brought us on their debut album Manifest Of Hate is a fierce package of brutal yet melodic, fast and furious, technical and tight-as-hell-played deathmetal. Boy that's a long one. I'm still surprised by the high level of musicianship and tight playing of the band, the song structures are shredding, you don't get a moment to breathe. Their sound could be described as Swedish and U.S. death metal, cause there's room for both melodies and harmonies and brutality and blastbeats. At first it all sounds like a mess, you cannot follow the pace since there's so much going on all at once, but take five or six more listens and you'll be rewarded by the beauty of this brutal music. Songs worth mentioning: ALL, except the horror keyboard instrumental in the middle (it wasn't written by the band anyway). The vocalist is also amazing, his growls are among the best I've heard, the lead and rhythm guitars are really beefed up in the mix (thumbs up) and the solos are so technical and melodic you just want to play along, the bass also gets to do some fills in between and, last, the drumming is furious and devastating while remaining ultra techincal. While new deathmetal acts come out sounding just like In Flames or Dark Tranquillity, The Forsaken sounds like an evil hybrid of Morbid Angel, At The Gates and, well, In Flames. This is an album to watch out for, so if you haven't bought it yet, I strongly recommend you to do so. Can't wait for their next album but until then Manifest Of Hate will do just fine.

This album hits u from the get go, and it doesn't let up at all. It's an excellent death metal album, very well executed. Nothing revolutionary but with plenty of well-constructed musical chunks to keep every metal fan thoroughly satisfied. The vocalist is interesting as he varies his vocals switching to diffrent styles every now and then. The riffs are killer. The production, done at Abyss, is one of the studio's better releases. The guitars sound great (important note eh, hehehehehe). The mix is pretty good, although I felt that a bit more punch perhaps in the mastering phase would have improved its overall sonic quality. It's just an overall excellent piece of death metal for a band's first outing. I'm definitely keeping an eye on them and I suggest so should you.

Definitely a melodic/thrash scorcher. Very precise drumming and well structured songs make this a must have for any melodic metal fan, but don't get me wrong, it's definitely brutal in its own right. At first listen the Swedish element is easily recognized, particularly similar drum fills and riff progressions "borrowed" from At the Gates and In Flames (the vocals are sometimes similar as well, but that's not such a bad thing). However, if given a chance, this album will develop into more than just a rehash of Swedish clichea and will stand on its own as a unique and powerful album. I happen to like every song, although there is a somewhat cheesy keyboard instrumental. This album ABSOLUTELY should be checked out if you like your metal fast and intense but with substance, especially since it stands above much of the overly technical noise-laden junk that fails to impress. The Forsaken = great riffs, amazing speed and precision. I wouldn't leave home without it.

What we have here is a perfect mixture of At The Gates and brutal Death Metal a la Morbid Angel. The Forsaken are newcomers to the scene, but definitely surpass a lot of your favorites out of Sweden. (the Crown/The Haunted/etc.) The guitars are just amazing, very thick sounding and very clear at the same time. The band switches from melody to brutality quite easily, without being overly melodic and happy sounding like In Flames, or ridiculously brutal on the other hand. Like I said before, there are a lot of similarities to At The Gates, around the With Fear period, maybe because the production is quite similar. The vocals are more death metal oriented though, with a few high pitched screams thrown in for diversity. Most of the material presented here is fast as hell, so don't expect any slow passages or melancholic crap with female vocals.

Basically, if you're into the whole Swedish metal scene, both old and new, this is the album for you. An album that surely crushes the new releases by The Haunted, The Crown, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, etc. etc. etc.

    Buy or Die !!
