Been waiting for this for a while. Being a fan of Testament since 1986 or so, I've been there through their many line-up changes and slight to drastic (Souls Of Black/ The Ritual) direction changes and stayed true to them. Having seriously been turned on to black metal over the last four years, I was all excited and shit when I heard Eric was doing this project, but I didn't expect this.I was pretty blown away by this album. Almost the same way Demonic really threw me for being so overtly deathmetal, the Rapture CD totally captured the essence of Eric Peterson's black metal venting in a complete package. There's easily four of the best black metal tunes of the year on this CD alone, the best two being the ravaging "Wolfhunt" with a blast section that reaches Krisiun speed with a crazy guitar running under it, and the highly dynamic title track with an intro that sounds WAY too much like the intro to "Riding The Snake" from Testament's The Gathering album. This doesn't make the song derivative in the least, but actually meshes with the idea behind "Riding The Snake" and the artwork on this CD. Cool shit.
Yeah, the vocals sound a LITTLE 'Filth-y', but Eric tears shit up on the mic, and the other musicians kill too, and this MUST be taken seriously as a blackmetal project, not a trendy sell-out. A bit more Emperor-esque than I was expecting, the musicality on this is direct and complex at the same time without losing you in shitty production. Dimmu Borgir should be half this good, seriously, this album rips unholy ass. Buy It.

This album just plain out rocks! I remember seeing something about the Dragonlord project on testamentlegions.com months ago, and never knew anything serious would form out of it, or even what it was. Well after reading reviews for this album I got excited, and it is awesome! A nice blend of black metal and the signature thick and thrashy Testament guitar tone. Keyboards add a nice touch and are not overdone like they often are in black metal, and Peterson can sing! A beautiful work of art no doubt, my only complaint is the length, I want more! I hope these guys play as Dragonlord for at least a few shows. A must buy.

While I'm not really getting into new bands these days, especially in black metal, I couldn't refuse to hear how Eric Peterson would take on black metal. Very impressive to say the least. I couldn't believe it when I found out that it was actually Eric doing the vocals and doing them like a pro. The riffs to me sound basically like new Testament with just a little tweak here and there to be black metal. This album is really heavy and pretty technical. The drumming is really phenomenal. Overall this album sounds like Dimmu Borgir, only much, much better. If you're into bands like Dimmu Borgir or a fan of newer Testament there is a good chance you will dig this album.
