After a long history of shocking cover art, problems with the law, and some pretty mediocre albums, Stockholm's Dismember steps forward with their most brutal record since ,95's Massive Killing Capacity (which was more NWOBHM-ish than deathy). Thankfully, nothing on Hate Campaign comes close to the band's unbearably tinny debut, 1991's Like An Everflowing Stream, for the band has transcended the garbled, death-metal netherworlds in a chunkier direction like a more aggressive Entombed. "Questionable Ethics" and the title track sound like a slower Napalm Death, with frontman Matti Karki favoring the vocal barks of Barney Greenway. But "In Death's Cold Embrace" and "Retaliate" feels the need for speed, with "Enslaved To Bitterness" throwing in a dash of Iron Maiden for good measure. Sadly, Hate Campaign fails to capture Dismember's past venom, plus the band hasn't regained the magnificent cover art of Dan Seagrave (Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, Entombed), either.

This is, thus far, the best death metal album of the year. Short like Reign in Blood but definitely extreme. To top it off, very melodic with harsh distorted vocals. The only reason they sound like Entombed is 'cause the drummer for this band is the producer for Entombed. This is not your typical NWOSwedish death metal. It's more original and less commericial then the Arch Enemies and In Flames of today.

    BUY IT
