Sounds like a bunch of noise to me. Almost reminds me of Strapping Young Lad's City album, which IMO is HORRIBLE noise. Sorry, but unless this album is the type to "grow" on you, it is crap in my book. I am VERY disappointed you people here give it 5 skulls. Makes me wonder about your credibility. Thank God for being able to download music with instruments such as Kazaa for evaluation before buying crappy albums.

Kudos to the MJ review committee for giving attention to this well-deserving E.P.I was eager about this release from the start. I had heard constant rumours that both Patton and DEP were getting together to do an E.P. but I had to hear it through my own ears. And let me tell you, this E.P. is nothing less of extraordinary.
It's so impossible to describe the styles of both musicians on this album unless you've heard both of them. The only way I can word this type of music is Avant-guarde. Imagine Mike Patton with Dillinger Escape Plan, it's the best way I can put it. If you haven't heard either musical act yet, well... what the hell are you waiting for, stop reading this review and get schooled.
But if you're still reading this, all you're going to hear is a long series of rants and praises. Man this album is fucking incredible.
Hollywood Squares starts things off the typical Dillinger-esque blur of intricate mathcore that they've defined the genre with. Then the insanity of Patton's most chaotic times with Mr. Bungle seeps in. One minute into the song, you know that this is unadulterated Dillinger, and unadulterated Bungle. And it doesn't stop there. From the opening lyrics "Game over" to the near-perfect hardcore translation of Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy", it's evident that this album is both Dillinger AND Patton at their best.
This is a dream come true for fans of both acts. I'm a part of both, so you can imagine that I soiled myself 10 times over when I found out about Irony is a Dead Scene. This is insanity, brutality, and beauty at its quintessence.
Only one complaint (and it's the same complaint that everyone has): why didn't this fusion happen earlier? Why is this only an E.P.? I want more. We want more. More more more. Now now now.
One word review: CHINGA!
