First hearing their track on the Contamination comp. I was blown away to simply put it. Extremity in a scene built upon it. My first intereaction with the album itself left me giggling and my neck sore (I couldn't stop bobbing my head). A good stereo, a nice fat joint and lack of intuition with this album will definitely leave its mark. It surely opened my eyes only to poke them when I wasn't expecting it.Better than a swift kick in the nuts but with about the same effect.

There's one word that describes Exploiting Dysfunction by Cephalic Carnage: Amazing. Absolutely amazing. From the very first minute of "Hybrid," the first track on the CD, you know you're in for one hell of a trip. Brian's absolutely out of control drumming, Leanzig's death metal grunt, Jawsh's high pitched scream, and then the absolutely crazy harmonies created by Zac and Steve provide the ideal Grindy Jazz experience. There's not a whole lot that can be said about Cephalic Carnage except that they are quite possibly one of the greatest bands making music in this day and age. They keep raising the bar for other metal acts and it is starting to get hard for others to compete with these guys.

To see how infinitely cool this band is, look below this review. An actual member of the band posted to thank the guys who were nice enough to review it. Very badass. This record is no less than brilliant. At first I was not ready for it, but this will grow on you like mold. It's so wild and varied and everywhere, but still somehow collected. Breathtaking. It makes me yawn when I hear other death or grind bands. If every band had this ammount of sheer ability combined with willingness to experiment and push the boundaries, this scene would be a nicer place. Cephalic Carnage definitely have a place in the future of extreme music. I have a feeling in the years to come, they will be as remembered and revered as bands like Brutal Truth. Buy this album or die ignorant.

Man this album is nuts. At first I didn't really care for it cause it wasn't what I expected, but I spun it a few more times and now I catch myself listening to it all the time. The time changes are the craziest I've ever heard. And the gutteral vocal just grinds your flesh right off you. This album will grow all over you and make you dysfunctionable or disfigured!

If you're looking for something brutal but at the same time totally different, look no further than Cephalic Carnage. These fukkers tear ass. One second a sick ass heavy riff. Then all of a sudden, weird slow melodic shit. Fucking crazy. Technical and catchy at the same time. So if you like Dillinger or Nasum or anything at all, check these guys out or you will be missing out.

I just wanted to say gracias for actually paying attention to Exploiting Dysfunction. Your kind words and (hopefully) your honest opinion have made me very excited to hear what the reaction is from other open-minded death metal/grindcore freaks like myself and you cats.We are constantly getting critized for attempting to do our own thing within this genre. Either we're not "PURE" enough or "BRUTAL" enough, or we're trying too hard to stand out, or we're tired and un-original. Most people don't want their death metal or grindcore tampered with or re-developed. To that I say keep rewinding your Earache Grindcrusher sampler and your At Death's Door comps, and in that you will find solace. (no not the band, I'm actually using the term)
The last thing I remember I was showing up to practice to have a good time, smoke some weed, and just jam with the fellas. Not a care in the world. We weren't trying to impress anyone, or re-write the formula for instant death/grind. We were just having fun, spontaneously writing whatever satisfied our own desire, which was just to release alot of stress, anxiety, nervous energy and a head full of unstructured mayhemic melody that won't go away. Then we have our death metal purist types who are constantly flapping their talk holes about "cheating" in death metal. These "people" actually believe that playing your drums or picking your guitar a certain way is cheating, thus subscribing to the theory that if it isn't the way that it was played 10 years ago that it's an easier or an amateur form of playing. Thus it's cheating and it's unacceptable. Well, consider Cephalic Carnage unaccepted. Ask any accomplished musician outside of death metal about cheating, and they'll tell you the only form of cheating in musicianship is a limited knowledge of one's potential and a closed mind toward experimentation, thus selling yourself short and "cheating" yourself out of a world of possibilities.
You might think I ramble on about trivial matters, but your reviews of Exploiting Dysfunction were exceptional and I truly believe that you heard what we were trying to capture. Thank you very much, and I will buy any album you suggest.
Your metal brother,
Zac/Cephalic Carnage
