I feel that this album needs a fair view, from a power metal perspective, so here I am.

Well, first off, how do you approach a new BG album? There is almost no way that this band can follow up to a classic like Nightfall in Middle Earth, and I don't think that this album is an attempt to. Not surprisingly, this album is not as good an NIME, and for this, it is easy to focus on it's shortcomings. The biggest of which would be the recording quality. The recording quality isn't very good, and does some damage to the atmosphere, which this bands is so utterly dependant on. The next obvious gripe is that ANATO is not as dynamic as previous albums. The lack of significant differences between the songs makes it more difficult to lose one's self. What I have always loved about this band is the way they treat every song like a world in and of itself. Not many bands talk about spending 6 months to write a single song. This is much less evident on ANATO. Some might also gripe about the use of keyboard and drum effects, which could be said to have been used inappropriately.

But, you can only slam this album for so long before it hits you: other power metal bands! The irrefutable *fact* is that if ANATO were put out by Noctural Rites, Hammerfall, Helloween, or just about any competitive band, it would be hailed as their best work, period! This album absolutely obliterates every other comparable band in every aspect that a person would listen to power metal for. Sure everyone has opinions and preferences, but it is simply a fact that in terms of song structure, lyrics, melodic phrasing, originality, etc., Blind Guardian has always been light years ahead of any comparable band, and this album is no exception.

Once this is realized, it's much easier to get ANATO out of NIME's shadow, and view it objectively. With that in mind, "Battlefield", "The Maiden" and "The Minstrel Knight", "Wait for an Answer", and others are just damn good! This album is often praised for it's bombast, orchestration, etc., but take all that away, and it's just damn good music! "And Then There Was Silence" is practically good enough to carry the entire album. God damn that song rules! So in conclusion, this album is fucking great.

Sorry, but I have to say I don't like what Blind Guardian has became. I think this album continues in the direction they started with Nightfall..., and makes the group more and more recognizable, but it's sure I don't like those keyboard-sounding guitars.

I think this is one of the best records in 2002 so far!!!! Hansi Kürsch has one of the best voices I ever heard in my life!!! The music is great and once you heard the songs of this album you can hardly take it out of your mind!!! There's always something that remains inside of you.
Gracias Blind Guardian por traer al mundo, otra obra de arte para el Metal!!!!
