I think this is a great metal album, great sound, great musicians; but althought songwriting is great, I think it lacks some kind of uniformity. There are great songs, but they don't sound like "an album," some times I have the impression I am listening to different bands. However, I think it's fairly better than Stigmata, especially for the vocals, Liva has made a great effort.

If you like the sound of the guitar you will like this album, simple as that. The brothers Amott are two of the most gifted guitar players in all of metal. This album is loaded with some of the best guitar acrobatics I have heard all year. The huge Studio Friedman production only helps to enhance the overall size of this record. The rhythm section lays down great support under insane guitar melodies, thanx to Sharlee D'angelo of Mercyful Fate on bass. A very good album. The only downside is the sometimes cheesy vocal barks of Johan Liva. My favorite songs are "Demonic Science" and "Silverwing".

I like this band. I pretty much like all music that comes from Sweden just because they're not American regurgitated metal. Now I know that Arch Enemy is a combo of different guys from different bands but that's cool. Especially when you consider who comes from where; Mercyful Fate, Witchery, Carcass, etc. This album is awesome, I just wish it were longer. Killer riffage, non-cheezy melodies, sick vocals, tight and clean sound. If I were you and you knew anything about anything, go buy this album and listen to it and I guarantee that you'll like it. Favorite song: "Pilgrim."

I'll start off by saying this album pretty much emcompasses what pure metal is. It's extremely tight and well produced with unique, memorable songs played by those with pretty much total mastery of their instruments. The guitarists seem totally locked on this one. I love the intertwining guitar parts, especially. I think it's a bit too happy-sounding at times, as I mainly listen to technical and brutal death metal. Overall, it's a must have, as all their other albums are.

It's obvious to me that everyone in this band are top-notch players. Let's take the drummer for instance -- listen to his foot control. He obviously has excellent timing. He's solid.

The guitar players have great crunch. Even though the bass is in the background, I can hear it in more of a chordal sense. Between the bass and the guitar, they are creating a chord together.

Excellent production on this particular CD. When I listened to it the first time, I thought everything was so awesome. I have to admit that I haven't really caught on to what the guy is actually saying, sometimes it's hard with this kind of music. But I like what he is doing. I guess I should listen more closely to find out what he is saying. You know how it is, the more you listen to something, the more you find out all the little nuances.

I have to go against the judges' reviews...Carcass' Necrotism: Descanting the Insalubrious krushed me when it came out and it still krushes me, but I find this along with the other Arch Enemy releases to be too plain...there was no hook, there was no krush that "got me"...I gave them a couple listens and found nothing of interest. I'll stick to my Carcass releases.
