    Beautiful!!!!

I have always been an Amorphis fan. First record? Tales from a Thousand Lakes. I remember seeing it in the store and without knowing a damn thing abouy the band it said, "Pick me the fuck up," and I did, and FUCK was it worth it! The I purchased Karelian... and also liked it. Karelian is good, Tales is amazing, Elegy is one of the best metal albums I have and I have plenty, Tuonela was not up to the standards of Elegy, but then again what could be? It was an amazing album. Also My Kantele ep, Black Winter Day ep, Pilgrimage of Evil, it's all so damn good! And out comes Am Universum. Same vein as Tuonela and also an amazing album. If you like your music extreme and fast and can only leave with you blast beats and your Cannibal Corpse riffing then this album is not for you. But if you like crafted, well-made music with lots of melody and feeling, go get this right now!!

Best tracks: "Alone," "Veil of Sin," "Grief Stricken Heart" and "Goddess."

The band that constantly grows has finally found a sound that they feel confident in. If you're a hardcore death metal freak and think that Amorphis died after Tales..., then just quit reading because I doubt I can change your mind. I too felt betrayed when Amorphis released Elegy, but once I accepted that this caliber of a band must progress, Elegy became (and remains) my favorite album of theirs. Am Universum finds the Finnish boys progressing the style they began with Tuonela. Pasi's vocals are much better with a more confident feel behind them. The guitar work is much the same as it was on Tuonela, very 70's feel but with that Paradise Lost "Draconian Times" edge to it. The new keyboard player adds an element much missed on Tuonela giving the album the feeling that it's a mix of Elegy and Tuonela. Opening track "Alone," is very heavy and displays Pasi's vocal progession right off the bat. "Shatter Within" is a classic Amorphis song very powerful and very heavy. Overall the album is better than Tuonela but not as good as Elegy or Tales..., and the total absence, aside from exclamation, of the death growls leaves something to be desired. Aside from those complaints (which are extreamly minute) this is a great album and currently top contender for album of the year. For those of you who gave up on Amorphis once Elegy was released I plead with you to give this album a listen and you'll see that they have not forgotten their root they simply morphed them in with their other influences. Hail the kings of atmospheric metal.

Well, there's no Tuonela review on this site and I cant wait to tell averyone that Tuonela is a FUCKING GREAT PIECE OF ART. I know this is an AmUniversum review but I think it can't be reviewed without saying something about Tuonela. How can anyone say Tuonela is bad just because there's no fucking scream voice??? Damn, Elegy was good, but Tuonela just goes on top of any Amorphis album. The saxophone, the pianos, the vocals are just great. It requires a fine ear to get it. Not a Mayhem, Immortal, Cannibal Corpse ear. I accept I first listened to Tuonela back in 99 and I didn't like it, but then some curiousity made me put it again on the cd player. My ears are delighted. Real musicianship a la Pink Floyd.

By the way I have listened to some AmUniversum songs but I didn't get them well. I hope it happens the same that happened with Tuonela. The only low points of Tuonela are "the devil has shown me the way" lyric in song "The Way." Too bad a good band like Amorphis are fucking scum=satanic (the second track is called "Morning Star" which means satan in ancient mythlogy). BUY ALL THE FUCKING AMORPHIS ALBUMS!!!!
