I must admit that this is the only Amon Amarth CD I've heard so I can't really compare it to Once Sent.... But that should mean that I am largely unbiased in my opinion of this album. And it's a pretty damn good one at that. I generally only review either the albums I really like or really hate here and this is definitely the former. What we have here is an excellent combination of black metal with NWOSDM and "glory" lyrics, which, surprisingly, come off pretty well. The production is excellent (of course, Tagtgren is the fucking man!), the harmonies are perfect and the music gives you an overwhelming "epic" sense. It's heavy as fuck while being sorrowfully melodic at the same time. However, it is a bit short, and sometimes the lyrics have no real substance. This is probably for people who are either looking to drink a lot of beer or just relax. Either way, it is a solid disc that merits a listen.

I was totally blown away by Amon Amarth's Once Sent From The Golden Hall. That is the way Viking Metal is supposed to sound like! So, quite logically, I had very high hopes for this one. But this was quite a disappointment. The sound is "over-produced" and I don't like the material as much as on Once Sent. The epic feel, where is it!!? This feels more like just Metal and nothing else. But OK, they have their highlights here and there...
